The
Caley is:
- Scotland's
premier
gardening society and also one of its
oldest; founded in 1809 "for the purpose of forming a society for the
improvement of horticulture in all its branches", it was granted Royal
Charters in 1824 and 1898.
- Based
in Edinburgh, but with members nationwide, it
welcomes anyone interested in gardening, be they amateurs or
professionals, beginners or experienced gardeners.
The
Caley
offers
Members:
- A
series of talks on
gardening at
7.30pm in the Royal Botanic Garden, Inverleith Row, Edinburgh on the
1st and 3rd Tuesdays, October to March.
- Day
and evening
visits to gardens throughout Scotland, and an annual 6-day study tour
excursion within the UK.
- Plant
Sales on three Saturdays in May at Saughton Winter
Gardens, Edinburgh.
- Expert advice on gardening problems,
and books and videos on loan.
- An annual Journal,
The Caledonian Gardener, which is full of interesting articles; and a
regular
newsletter, Preview, which gives news of the Society and what is to
come.
