A Society
Charter: Based in
Edinburgh, but with members nationwide, The Caley welcomes anyone
interested in gardening, be they amateurs or professionals, beginners
or experienced gardeners.
Basic guiding principles of the Society are
set down in
bye-laws originally approved in 1877 and continuously revised and
refined up until the present day.
The Caley "Charter" addresses the current purpose of the Society and
emphasises which activities are required to ensure its continued
well-being. The Charter is therefore:
1. To recognise and promote horticultural excellence and achievement in
Scotland.
2. By maintaining a busy programme of activities, and marshalling all
available expertise and resources, to ensure continued functioning of
the Society, a healthy membership, and maximised benefits for its
members.
3. To co-ordinate national events and, by closely associating with all
gardening societies and organisations, to represent the horticultural
movement in Scotland.
