The Caley is:
- Scotland's premier gardening society and also one of its oldest; founded in 1809 "for the purpose of forming a society for the improvement of horticulture in all its branches", it was granted Royal Charters in 1824 and 1898.
- Based in Edinburgh, but with members nationwide, it welcomes anyone interested in gardening, be they amateurs or professionals, beginners or experienced gardeners.

The Caley offers Members:
- A series of talks on gardening at 7.30pm in the Royal Botanic Garden, Inverleith Row, Edinburgh on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, October to March.
- Day and evening visits to gardens throughout Scotland, and an annual 6-day study tour excursion within the UK.
- Plant Sales on three Saturdays in May at Saughton Winter Gardens, Edinburgh.
- Expert advice on gardening problems, and books and videos on loan.
- An annual Journal, The Caledonian Gardener, which is full of interesting articles; and a regular newsletter, Preview, which gives news of the Society and what is to come.
