I returned from our weekend away ( in sunny Swindon) to find that the progress of the bulbs under the micromesh has been a bit slow. I have looked around in the shed and unearthed some more polythene and reclad the tunnel so that it retains more heat. The lack of sunshine is certainly holding things back and the drop in temperature and snow/sleet over the weekend has not helped.
The Hyacinths are still a bit problematic with the pink ones showing that they are all going to be doubles and the same has happened to one of the blues.
I will cut the poorer flowers out later this week and report back.

Warbler and Mount Hood are looking OK with both showing colour in some of the flowers even if they are a bit thin. Remember that even if they do not make good pots you can cut flowers and enter them in the cut flower classes .
Salome and Whit marvel will need to be given the warm treatment I fear and Salome in particular is proving to be quite a challenge to get moving.
Outside clumps of Rapture and Ice Follies are filling up nicely and are opening of their own accord.
Come to The Caley meeting tonight and get an update on how to arrange cut flowers for the show.

I have picked a number of different buds of Daffs from the garden and allotment and stuck them in a vase in the living room.
As an added extra I will photograph these each day so that you can see their progress from closed bud to open flower. This might help you to get some of the daffodil buds in your garden ready for the show bench.
