Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society
A plaque commemorating the first meeting of the Society held at the old Physician's Hall in
George St, Edinburgh has recently been erected. It is on the left portico of The Dome in George St,
close to the site where 200 years ago 17 men met one evening to talk about the formation of a
Scottish Horticultural Society.
Patrick Neill was one of the gentlemen present and the logo portrayed on the plaque
and still used by 'The Caley' to this day is based upon the logo he created at that time
The plaque was created by ceramic artist Ned Heywood of Chepstow, Monmouthshire.

A formal unveiling ceremony will be arranged'

this was demolished to make way for the present building.
